Inspired by our friends at @risingtides.taproom, we will be holding classes teaching you the basics of sign language. This edition will be teaching how to sign along to popular songs. Whether you're simply curious or have always wanted to learn, our beginners' classes are designed for everyone by our experienced instructor Gier. Each class will build on the last, and you’ll be given paper handouts so you can practice at home on your own. But don’t worry! Even if you’ve missed the previous class there will be a review and you can still join anytime as a newbie. You'll also learn about Deaf culture & gain a greater understanding of the importance of sign language in promoting inclusivity and communication.
Why sign? Not only are you working towards greater accessibility for our Deaf & Hearing Impaired friends, but even as a hearing person, learning sign language “enhances your cognitive processes, helps you develop higher abstract & creative thinking, increases problem solving capacities, and strengthens your overall communication skills.” Basically, it’s a big flex for that brain muscle!
So grab a friend and come sip on your favorite beer, & embark on this enlivening journey of learning sign language together. We’ll be kicking off Wednesday Feb 14 from 7-9pm.
